Welding electrodes (stick electrodes) are flux-coated metal rods that are absolutely essential for traditional manual metal arc (MMA) welding. As the electric arc burns, the inner metal core melts to fuse the workpieces together, while the outer flux coating vaporizes to create a protective shielding gas and forms a layer of slag that prevents atmospheric oxidation of the cooling weld bead. Rutile-coated electrodes are the most popular choice for general fabrication and beginners due to their easy arc ignition and low spatter. For high-strength, critical structural welds, basic-coated electrodes (low hydrogen) are utilized. The inventory also includes specialized rods for welding cast iron, stainless steel, and hardfacing applications.
