Non-woven abrasives (commonly known as Scotch-Brite) feature a flexible, three-dimensional structure made from synthetic web fibers (nylon) uniformly impregnated with abrasive grains and bonded with synthetic resin. Their primary function is delicate surface blending, scuffing, matting, light rust removal, and primer preparation without altering the original dimensions or geometry of the workpiece. Thanks to its open-web construction, the material resists loading (clogging), minimizes heat buildup, and easily conforms to complex contours, profiles, and irregular edges. It is highly valued in automotive body repair, metal fabrication (particularly for finishing stainless steel and aluminum), woodworking, and furniture restoration. Non-woven abrasives are available in hand pads, continuous rolls, hook-and-loop (Velcro) discs, and flap wheels. Critical selection criteria include the grit grade (ranging from heavy-duty Coarse to Ultra-Fine and Micro-Fine), physical format, and compatibility with the target material.
