Expansion & Pressure Tanks

Pressure tanks (hydro-accumulators) and thermal expansion tanks are rigid steel vessels containing an internal, flexible rubber bladder (EPDM/Butyl) that act as essential pressurized buffers within plumbing and hydronic loops. Hydro-accumulators (traditionally painted blue) are mandatory for private well systems: they store a pressurized reserve of potable water, drastically reducing the rapid on/off cycling of the well pump (which prevents premature motor burnout) while simultaneously absorbing violent hydraulic water hammer shocks during pump startup. Thermal expansion tanks (typically painted red) are strictly utilized in closed-loop central heating systems to safely absorb the volumetric expansion of heated fluid. As the boiler heats the water, the expanding volume compresses into the tank bladder, actively preventing ruptured pipes, blown radiator seals, and catastrophic boiler over-pressurization.
