Semi-automatic welding machines (MIG/MAG wire-feed welders) are highly productive systems that replace traditional stick electrodes with a continuous spool of welding wire, which is automatically fed through the welding torch into the arc zone. The process is shielded by an inert or active gas (such as Argon, CO2, or a mix), perfectly protecting the molten weld pool from atmospheric oxidation. MIG welders are the undisputed industry standard for auto body repair shops, as they allow for the flawless, burn-through-free welding of extremely thin sheet metal. They are also heavily favored in industrial fabrication for laying down long, continuous, and slag-free welds without stopping. Many modern inverter-based MIG machines also support flux-cored (gasless) wire welding, eliminating the need to haul heavy gas cylinders for outdoor jobs.
