Sanding belts (endless abrasive belts) are high-performance consumables designed for portable belt sanders, benchtop grinders, and industrial sanding machinery. Their primary function is rapid and aggressive stock removal, surface leveling, stripping old paint, varnish, and rust, as well as preliminary and intermediate finishing. They are widely used for processing solid wood, plywood, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, fiberglass, and engineered plastics. The belt consists of a heavy-duty cloth (polyester, cotton) or reinforced paper backing coated with premium abrasive grains (aluminum oxide, zirconia alumina, or ceramic) secured by heat-resistant synthetic resins. When selecting a sanding belt, critical factors include the exact belt dimensions (width and length must precisely match the tool specifications), grit rating (ranging from coarse P40 for heavy stripping to fine P400 for finishing), backing flexibility, and the quality of the splice joint to ensure smooth, bump-free operation.
